IV ANESTHESIA
You may not eat or drink — including water — after midnight the night before surgery until your surgery is complete.
- Take your daily medications with no more than 2 ounces (2 oz.) of water up to 2 hours before your procedure unless instructed otherwise.
A responsible adult must accompany you, stay during the procedure, and drive you home. You may not drive a vehicle or operate machinery for 24 hours following anesthesia. Guardians must accompany minors.
The use of marijuana, alcohol, or recreational drugs can adversely affect the medications that we administer. Please discontinue use of these substances 48 hours before your procedure.
Wear loose-fitting clothing and flat shoes. Do not wear nail polish or lipstick. No contact lenses or head and neck jewelry.
If you feel an illness such as the flu, sore throat, cough, or bowel upset pre-operatively, please notify the office.
Women, please note: Some antibiotics may interfere with the effectiveness of your birth control pills. Please check with your pharmacist.
LAUGHING GAS (NITROUS OXIDE)
Adults
Have something light to eat pre-operatively. Please, no heavy dairy — it may lead to nausea.
Children (<18yrs old):
You may not eat or drink pre-operatively on the day of the procedure.
